Pagera Editor's Note
Adam Smith's An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, first published in 1776, appears here in a one-volume edition printed by T. Nelson and Sons in 1852. This edition adds a life of the author and a short view of Smith's doctrine compared with that of the French Economists, with a method for studying his work, taken from the French of Germain Garnier. Smith's five books cover the division of labour and the origins of value and price, the nature and accumulation of capital, the progress of wealth in different nations, systems of political economy including the mercantile system, and the revenue of the state.
