Pagera Editor's Note
A. E. Taylor's Elements of Metaphysics, first published by Methuen in 1903 and dedicated to F. H. Bradley, is a systematic introduction to metaphysics written from the standpoint of absolute idealism. It is arranged in four books. The first sets out the problem, criterion and method of metaphysics; the second discusses the general nature of reality, its unity, appearance and degrees of reality, substance, relation, change and causality; the third turns to cosmology, including matter, natural law, space and time, and evolution; and the fourth treats rational psychology, soul and body, the self, moral freedom, and the metaphysical implications of ethics and religion.
