Author

新美南吉

Niimi Nankichi (1913-1943) was a Japanese writer of children's stories. Gon the Fox, written when he was eighteen, is still taught in Japanese primary schools. He worked as a teacher while ill with tuberculosis and died at twenty-nine, leaving stories that treat misunderstanding and regret as things children already know.
