一八七四年十一月九日 エンクワイヤラア紙上に社會面記事として執筆せしもの。 無法な火葬 土曜日夜の恐るべき犯罪 慘殺されて竈で燒かれた男 恐ろしき父の復讐 殺人容疑者の逮捕 情況證據の環 戰く馬の憫れな證據 戰慄すべき惡魔的所爲の詳細 被告の陳述と名刺型寫眞 「災禍は踵を追ふて襲ひ來る」、しかく災禍は迅速に相次いで起るものだ。前に我々は過去數年間中當市に起つた最も大きな火災の一つの顛末を報道したばかりであるのに今又茲に我が州の紋章に千古の汚點を印した兇惡無比の殺人事件の記載を要求された。何人も戰慄すべきその詳報には嘔吐を催すほど殘忍にして恐るべき殺人事件――恐らく火によつてその目的を急がれたらしい兇行。もとより二人の被告殺人犯の後見役は復讐であつたが一方漸次本記事の進行につれて明白なる如く
