Pagera Editor's Note

Mark Twain's Burlesque Autobiography (1871) is an early compilation by Mark Twain (Samuel Langhorne Clemens, 1835-1910) combining two short pieces: first, a fake autobiography fabricating the Twain family genealogy from the 11th to 19th century through fictitious ancestors who are each highwaymen, forgers, pirates, or missionaries devoured by their congregations; second, a medieval romance 'A Medieval Romance' set in the Duchy of Brandenburgh, telling of the Klugenstein daughter raised as a male named Conrad for twenty-eight years to secure ducal succession.
