Pagera Editor's Note
This volume collects the shorter moral essays of the Roman Stoic Seneca (c. 4 BC to AD 65), together with his treatise On Clemency, in Aubrey Stewart's English translation of 1889. It contains Of Providence, On the Firmness of the Wise Man, the three books Of Anger, the consolations addressed to Marcia, Helvia, and Polybius, Of a Happy Life, Of Leisure, Of Peace of Mind, and Of the Shortness of Life. The two books Of Clemency, addressed to the young emperor Nero, close the collection. Together they apply Stoic teaching to adversity, grief, anger, the use of time, and the exercise of power.
