Pagera Editor's Note
The Commentaries of Caesar is Anthony Trollope's guide to Julius Caesar's accounts of his wars, written for the series Ancient Classics for English Readers, edited by W. Lucas Collins, and published in 1870. After an introduction on Caesar and his times, Trollope gives one chapter to each of the seven books of the Gallic War, covering the campaigns of 58 to 52 BC, including the landings in Britain and the revolt of Vercingetorix, and one to each of the three books of the Civil War against Pompey, including the battle of Pharsalus. A conclusion briefly covers the later commentaries on the Alexandrian, African and Spanish wars, written by others.
