Pagera Editor's Note
Charles Darwin's Journal of Researches records his voyage round the world as naturalist aboard HMS Beagle under Captain FitzRoy from 1831 to 1836. First published in 1839, it was revised by Darwin for a second edition in 1845, the text used here, which John Murray later issued as an illustrated edition titled A Naturalist's Voyage Round the World (this printing 1913). Its twenty-one chapters move from the Cape Verde Islands and Brazil through Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego, the Andes and Chile to the Galapagos Islands, Tahiti, New Zealand, Australia and the coral reefs of the Keeling Islands, mixing geology, natural history and observations of people.
