Pagera Editor's Note

This is the second of three volumes of R. B. Haldane and J. Kemp's translation of Arthur Schopenhauer's The World as Will and Idea. The work first appeared in 1818, and in 1844 Schopenhauer added a second volume of supplementary chapters. This volume opens with his Criticism of the Kantian Philosophy, then gives the supplements to the First Book, on idealism, perception, the senses, knowledge a priori, abstract knowledge, logic, the ludicrous, mathematics and the imperfections of the intellect. It ends with the first supplements to the Second Book, on knowing the thing in itself, the primacy of the will and the will in the animal organism.
