Pagera Editor's Note

Park Yeong-hui (1901~1950, pen name Hoewol) first translated Karel Čapek's R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots, 1920) into Korean, published in Gaebyeok Issue 56, February 1925. This Act 1 of 4 marks the introduction of the term "artificial laborers (injonodongja)" as the Korean rendering of "robot" in Korean science fiction. Editor's note: Park Yeong-hui was one of six founders of KAPF (Korea Artista Proleta Federacio, 1925.8) leading proletarian criticism, but after leaving KAPF in 1933 he collaborated with imperial Japan from 1939, hence listed in the 705 Pro-Japanese Collaborators registry. This work stands as a pivotal milestone in Korean modern science fiction.
