Pagera Editor's Note

The Voyage of the Beagle is Charles Darwin's account of his voyage around the world from 1831 to 1836 as naturalist aboard HMS Beagle under Captain Robert FitzRoy. First published in 1839, it appears here in the revised edition of 1845, in twenty-one chapters. Darwin describes the geology, plants, animals and peoples he encountered in the Cape Verde Islands, Brazil, Argentina, Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego, the Falkland Islands, Chile and Peru, the Galapagos Islands, Tahiti, New Zealand, Australia, the Keeling Islands and Mauritius. Observations made on the voyage later fed into his theory of evolution.
