Pagera Editor's Note

This third volume of the Stewart and Long translation of Plutarch's Lives, published by George Bell and Sons, continues the paired biographies of Greek and Roman statesmen and generals. It contains the lives of Nicias and Crassus, Sertorius and Eumenes, Agesilaus and Pompey, Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar, and Phocion and Cato the Younger, with the comparisons that survive. The Roman lives of Crassus, Sertorius, Pompey, Caesar and Cato are translated by George Long. The volume includes Plutarch's accounts of Alexander's conquests and of Caesar's rise to power and assassination.
