Pagera Editor's Note
The fourth and final volume of the Stewart and Long translation of Plutarch's Lives contains Agis and Cleomenes with Tiberius and Caius Gracchus, Demosthenes and Cicero, Demetrius and Antony, and Dion and Brutus, each pair followed by Plutarch's comparison. It also includes the single lives of Artaxerxes, Aratus, Galba and Otho, and closes with an index. Several of the Roman lives, among them those of the Gracchi, Cicero, Antony and Brutus, are translated by George Long. Plutarch, writing in Greek in the late first and early second centuries AD, used these biographies to explore virtue, ambition and the fortunes of states.
