郁雨君足下。 函館日々新聞及び君が予の一歌集に向つて與へられた深大の厚意は、予の今茲に改めて滿腔の感謝を捧ぐる所である。自分の受けた好意を自分で批評するも妙な譯ではあるが、實際あれ丈の好意を其著述に對して表された者は、誰しも先づ其の眞實の感謝を言ひ現はすに當つて、自己の有する語彙の貧しさを嘆かずにはゐられまい。函館は予の北海放浪の最初の記念の土地であつた。さうしてまた最後の記念の土地であつた。予は函館にゐる間、心ゆくばかり函館を愛しまた愛された。予と函館との關係が予と如何なる土地との關係よりも温かであつた事、今猶ある事は、君も承認してくれるに違ひない。予もまた常に一つの悲しみ……其温かい關係の續いてゐるのは、予が予自分の爲にでなく、火事といふ全く偶然の出來事の爲に去つたからだといふ悲しみを以て、その關係を了解し、追想し感謝してゐる。隨つて、予は予の一歌集を公にするに當つても、心ひそかに或好意をその懷しき土地に期待してゐたことは、此處に白状するを辭せざる所である。しかも其好意の愈々事實として現はるゝに及んで、予は遂に予の有する語彙の如何に感謝の辭に貧しいかを嘆かずにはゐられなかつた。予は
