夏より秋にかけての夜、美しさいふばかり無き雲を見ることあり。都会の人多くは心づかぬなるべし。舟に乗りて灘を行く折、天暗く水黒くして月星の光り洩れず、舷を打つ浪のみ青白く騒立ちて心細く覚ゆる沖中に、夜は丑三つともおもはるゝ頃、艙上に独り立つて海風の面を吹くがまゝ衣袂湿りて重きをも問はず、寝られぬ旅の情を遣らんと詩など吟ずる時、いなづま忽として起りて、水天一斉に凄じき色に明るくなり、千畳万畳の濤の頭は白銀の簪したる如く輝き立つかと見れば、怪しき岩の如く獣の如く山の如く鬼の如く空に峙ち蟠まり居し雲の、皆黄金色の笹縁つけて、いとおごそかに、人の眼を驚かしたる、云はんかたなく美し。
