雪靈記事 泉鏡花 一 「此のくらゐな事が……何の……小兒のうち歌留多を取りに行つたと思へば――」 越前の府、武生の、侘しい旅宿の、雪に埋れた軒を離れて、二町ばかりも進んだ時、吹雪に行惱みながら、私は――然う思ひました。 思ひつゝ推切つて行くのであります。 私は此處から四十里餘り隔たつた、おなじ雪深い國に生れたので、恁うした夜道を、十町や十五町歩行くのは何でもないと思つたのであります。 が、其の凄じさと言つたら、まるで眞白な、冷い、粉の大波を泳ぐやうで、風は荒海に齊しく、ぐわう/\と呻つて、地――と云つても五六尺積つた雪を、押搖つて狂ふのです。 「あの時分は、脇の下に羽でも生えて居たんだらう。屹と然うに違ひない。身輕に雪の上へ乘つて飛べるやうに。」 ……でなくつては、と呼吸も吐けない中で思ひました。 九歳十歳ばかりの其の小兒は、雪下駄、竹草履、それは雪の凍てた時、こんな晩には、柄にもない高足駄さへ穿いて居たのに、轉びもしないで、然も遊びに更けた正月の夜の十二時過ぎなど、近所の友だちにも別れると、唯一人で、白い社の廣い境内も拔ければ、邸町の白い長い土塀も通る。………ザヾツ、ぐわうと鳴つて、
